Faeriepunk tenets
"Faeries are not fantasy, but a connection to reality. Faeries are irrational, poetic, absurd, and very, very wise. Faeries say there is nonsense in dogma, and sense in nonsense. Faeries express themselves with high seriousness and low humour. Faeries are resistant to all definitions." -- Brian Froud
- don't piss off the Good Folk. This should be an everyday life tenet, really, but hey, it's not our fault not everyone believes in 'em. (And oh, trust me...they believe in you. Step lightly.)
- be bold and be brave. Stop apologising for being yourself. Stop trying to turn yourself into someone else. Take a risk. Piss off a human. Live in the wild thrill of maybes.
- make magic and glamour, even if (or maybe especially if) it makes other people a little uncomfortable.
- do no harm, but take no shit. Let others do their thing -- if you don't fuck with it, but it doesn't hurt you or anyone else, then let them be. Demand that same courtesy from others; do not let others hurt you.
- diversity is the spice of life. There are a million different forms of beauty, and that's okay. There's a million different forms of ugliness, too. See above for how to deal with it.
- reject twee and saccharine bullshit. Self-explanatory. The Victorians may have had some cool aesthetics (admit it, even the most post-human cyberpunk has a tiny speck of love for steampunk in them), but damn they did the fae dirty. (And women. And poorer classes. And children. And the mentally ill. But all this is another essay in its entirety, belonging on another website.)
- be wary of those who are 'love and light'. They're usually trying to sell you something that you already have or that you can get for free.
